8-Twelve's Azana Spa Benefit Raises Money for Victims' Children

A charity auction was held at 8-Twelve MVP Bar & Grill in Brookfield to benefit the children of the women killed in the Azana Salon & Spa shooting.

Updated Tuesday: Today's TMJ4 says between tickets and the silent auction, 8-twelve's fundraiser raised more than $60,000 for the families of the who died in the Azana spa shooting.

A packed house at 8-Twelve MVP Bar & Grill in Brookfield Monday night raised $20,000 just in tickets β€” plus more from rare finds in a silent auction, such as Aaron Rodgers game-worn playoff cleats.

And it was all primarily for eight people, namely the children of three mothers slain in the Oct. 21 tragedy at Azana Salon & Spa in Brookfield. Photos of the three women who worked at the spa reminded the 200 who paid $100 a piece to get in just why they were supporting the cause.

Candles flickered near the photos and remembrances of Zina Haughton, Cary Robuck and Maelyn Lind.

The event was the brainchild of the three men who formed 8-twelve: Omar Shaikh, of the SURG Restaurant Group, Green Bay Packer quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Milwaukee Brewers MVP Ryan Braun. (See past story on the planned fundraiser.) Susan Kim, of Today's TMJ4, emceed the event.

A long list of businesses, organizations and individuals donated items for the auction. Other auction items included a Brandon Jennings autographed jersey, Brewers VIP access for four, a Robin Yount autographed chair from Milwaukee County Stadium, an autographed Ryan Braun bat, and a 60-inch plasma television.Β

All day Tuesday, more than 100 salons in Wisconsin and far away as California, New York and Texas will be donating anywhere from 5 to 25 percent of their proceeds to the Azana Spa benefit fund set up at Associated Bank. The "Cut It Out" salon fundraiser has a list of participating salons on its Facebook page.
