The Waukesha Police Department did not have any suspects on May 29 and Rana's family offered a reward for information leading to an arrest.

Police said robbery was a possible motive. The gas station owner, Shabaz Qureshi, told investigators that $985 was missing from the store, according to the search warrant.

Other items that were stolen from the convenience store included cigarettes, smoking pipes, Hostess snack cakes and various cigars. Rana’s cell phone was missing, as well as his keys that were on a University lanyard.

Early on the morning of May 30, Elm Grove police located a duffle bag and a backpack at a bus stop on Bluemound Road. The bags contained numerous packs of cigarettes, cigars and a laptop computer.

Less than a half-hour later, Brookfield police were searching for a suspect in a home invasion burglary when they saw Ingram at Bluemound and Sunnyslope Roads, the court filing states.

While questioning him, an Elm Grove officer approached and asked if he was missing some bags.

Ingram said one of the bags found at the bus stop was his, but he denied ownership of the second bag which contained Rana’s keys, unopened cigarettes and cigars, smoking pipes, the computer and $100.30 in cash, according to the affidavit.

Police said both bags had information linked to Ingram. Brookfield police were suspicious and contacted Waukesha police to share information, which led to Brookfield arresting Ingram, who had a warrant out for his arrest and was on probation for a burglary conviction in Milwaukee County.

Authorities say Ingram had Rana’s cell phone and various currency that appeared to have blood stains, according to the search warrant.

At Ingram's Jackson Court home in Waukesha, police found a loaded handgun, ammunition and clothing that appeared to have blood stains on it, according to the search warrant affidavit.

Police also are checking DNA evidence from Ingram as a long, black strand of hair was found on a shelf above Rana’s body, the search warrant states.

Brookfield Police Capt. Jim Adlam credited the three departments for their cooperation.

"It was Waukesha, Brookfield and Elm Grove working together, and it was some great work by some young (Brookfield) officers who thought it was suspicious, starting talking about it, thinking about it and taking steps to follow up," he said.
