Brookfield Hotels Hit by Smash-and-Grab Car Break-ins

The Sheraton and Courtyard by Marriott each reported numerous cars with windows smashed and items stolen, with the Sheraton hit two nights.

Two Brookfield hotels have been hit with car break-ins, with someone smashing windows to steal GPS units and other items, police reports say.

Security at the , 375 S. Moorland Rd., called police about 4:30 a.m. Saturday to report that seven vehicles had windows smashed and items stolen in the hotel's south and west lots.

Items taken included checks, cash, tools, GPS units, clothes and a Springfield Armory 40-caliber subcompact handgun containing 50 rounds of ammunition.

Four days earlier the , 16865 W. Bluemound Rd., had a half-dozen car break-ins with smashed windows. Personal and rental cars of hotel guests were entered sometime between midnight and 7:45 a.m. Tuesday, with GPS units, cash, phone cords, sunglasses and more taken.

One woman said her GPS was taken, as was a black Coach bag that contained charges, an iPod Nano, 3G Kindle, Blackberry phone, calculator, $20, magazine light and work papers. Milwaukee police called Brookfield Tuesday afternoon to say the Coach bag was found at 6929 W. Silver Spring Drive but all that was inside were the work papers.

The parking lot also was hit overnight Jan. 17 into Jan. 18, with three vehicles' windows smashed. In one, video screens attached to the headrests were stolen; the other two vehicles had nothing missing.
