Brookfield Runaway Teen Burglarizes Home, Steals Car

After being reported missing by his parents, a 16-year-old Brookfield boy allegedly broke into a home garage and stole a car and other vehicles.

Hours after a man reported his garage and home had been burglarized while he and his family were asleep, Brookfield police arrested the burglar β€” a runaway local teenager.

A man in the 13600 block of Hampton Road called police at 5:41 a.m. Wednesday to say when he woke, he found his unlocked back door open and items stolen from his garage.

Missing was a 1998 Buick Sentry, a motorcycle and an ATV, taken sometime between 11 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday morning. The man said neither he, nor his wife or two children heard anything while they slept that night, reports say.

According to police reports:

About six hours after taking the burglary report, police received a call from a man who found the Buick Sentry in the backyard of his parents' home when he went there at 11:30 a.m.

A neighbor said he saw the Sentry driven into the yard and saw two people walking around the house, including a tall, skinny youth with glasses who threw gloves into the front bushes and then walk away on Fiebrantz Drive and then Keefe Avenue.

The description matched that of a 16-year-old boy who had been reported missing on Tuesday by his parents.

That boy returned to Wednesday and was interviewed about his involvement in the burglary before police sent him to the Waukesha County Juvenile Center. Officers were continuing to investigate a likely accomplice in the thefts.

Meanwhile, the Hampton Avenue homeowner called police back to say he had found the motorcycle and ATV in the woods behind his home.
