Car in Aborted Police Chase Goes Airborne, Crashes into Qdoba

A Brookfield officer said he aborted pursuit before the 25-year-old Brookfield man lost control, skidding near Capitol Drive and North 124th Street and missing cars waiting at the intersection early Sunday.

A Brookfield man lost control of his vehicle after a police chase on Capitol Drive, went airborne and crashed into the restaurant early Sunday morning, police said.

According to Brookfield police:

An officer began pursuing the vehicle eastbound on Capitol near Lilly Road about 12:50 a.m. Saturday, but called off the pursuit shortly thereafter when the driver refused to slow down.

The driver continued speeding east before braking and skidding his vehicle near the intersection of Capitol and North 124th, missing cars that were stopped there. It then went airborne and crashed into Qdoba, 12345 W. Capitol Dr. on the Wauwatosa side of the border.

The 25-year-old Brookfield driver had a minor wrist/hand injury and was examined at Elmbrook Memorial Hospital before being taken to the Waukesha County Jail.

Police arrested him on charges of second-offense OWI, fleeing, recklessly endangering safety, operating after revocation and violating a traffic control signal. He also had two warrants for his arrest, police said.
