Click It or Ticket: Town to Step Up Seat Belt Checks

The Town of Brookfield Police Department will join a statewide enforcement effort of seat belt laws from May 23 to June 5.

Motorists should be extra careful to fasten their seat belts while driving through the Town of Brookfield May 23 to June 5, as officers participate in a statewide "Click It or Ticket" campaign.

Town of Brookfield police officers will join more than 300 law enforcement agencies in Wisconsin to crack down on motorists not wearing their seat belts, also called safety belts.

There were nearly 120,000 convictions last year for failure to fasten safety belts, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. That was a record number, and was second only to speeding convictions.

"All too often when responding to a crash, our officers find people killed or seriously injured because they were not buckled up," said the press release from Town of Brookfield Police Chief Chris Perket.

The goal of "Click It or Ticket" is not to increase the number of tickets written but to raise awareness of the need for fastened seat belts to prevent traffic deaths.Β
