Cocaine Found in High-Speed I-94 Chase, Crash

Suspect and another man were coming from Waukesha with cocaine when they tried to flee from officers, criminal charges allege.

A 19-year-old Milwaukee man is facing charges after he led a Waukesha County sheriff’s deputy on a high speed chase through Brookfield and eventually crashed into a median on Hawley Road in Milwaukee.

Damarian L. Roby was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court Monday with one count each of attempting to flee an officer, felony bail jumping and possession of cocaine.

At 1:11 a.m. Sunday, the deputy was running radar on drivers on I-94 near Sunnyslope Road when he saw Roby driving 75 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour speed zone. He tried to pull over Roby's car, but it accelerated and continued eastbound into Milwaukee County.

Roby pulled off the expressway at Hawley Road, crashed into a median and popped three tires. He and a passenger tried to flee on foot but were eventually caught.

Roby told investigators they were driving back from Waukesha but wouldn't explain why he didn’t pull over. Officers found 6.1 grams of cocaine in the car, which caused Roby to get upset because he said he was out on bail for another cocaine charge.

Online court records show Roby has pleaded not guilty to a charge of cocaine possession from an Aug. 14 arrest, and on Sunday he was free on a signature bond.

His bail was set at $1,500 cash in the Waukesha County case and he remained in the Waukesha County Jail.
