Driver of Stolen Truck Struck Several Others During Police Chase

The driver of a stolen truck involved in a police chase from Hartland to Brookfield was arrested after running away from the scene of the crash that ended the pursuit.

The chase started at 7:19 a.m. when the suspect stole the white straight truck from outside Piggly Wiggly grocery store in Hartland, according to a press release from the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department. The truck belonged to Capitol-Husting Company of Milwaukee, and contained liquor; the driver of the truck was inside the store when the suspect stole it.

The Hartland Police Department provided information about the truck's description to other departments, according to the press release. A citizen, who had a police scanner, called after noticing the vehicle eastbound on I-94 near Hwy F; that citizen was able to provide updated information about the vehicle's location.

The truck continued eastbound on I-94, sideswiping a vehicle in an attempt to get away, according to the press release. Stop Sticks were deployed and the truck subsequently exited I-94 at Moorland Road, striking three more vehicles on the off-ramp at Moorland Road.

The driver eventually crashed the truck in a residential front lawn near Carpenter and Moorland, according to WISN.com. The suspect then fled into the backyard, and hid behind a shed until police found and arrested him.
