Fires at Restaurant and Condo Cause Limited Damage

Brookfield firefighters were called to a grill fire at Wasabi restaurant Friday evening and a porch fire at a condominium complex Sunday.

Brookfield firefighters extinguished a fire on condominium porch Sunday evening before the flames spread to the residence.

Firefighters also responded to an oven fire at restaurant at 15455 W. Blue Mound Rd., which was closed pending a county environmental health services review.

Condo porch fire: A neighbor called 911 to report a second-floor porch was on fire at 18215 Taywood Circle at 4:18 p.m. Sunday. The flames were reported to be 2- to 3-feet tall and 4- to 6-feet wide on the attached porch. A police officer arrived first, using a fire extinguisher to knock down the flames. Firefighters used hoses to put the fire out before it spread to the condo. No one was inside, and the homeowner was contacted.

Restaurant stove fire: Firefighters were called to Wasabi restaurant about 6 p.m. Friday by a water flow alarm. The manager said a pot of water boiled over, spilling into a pot of hot oil which overflowed onto a gas grill flame causing a fire. Customers were evacuated and a sprinkler system was activated, dousing and putting out the grill fire. It was still spraying water when firefighters arrived and was shut off. The restaurant was closed, pending review by Waukesha County Environmental Services.
