Repeat Drunken Driver Resisted Officers in Blood Test, Charges Say
A 55-year-old Greenfield man was charged with fourth-offense OWI and resisting arrest for fighting officers' attempts to restrain him for a blood draw, charges allege.
A Greenfield man drove drunk through Brookfield, then tried to fight police officers during a blood alcohol test, charges allege.
Kevin F. Bruce, 55, was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court Monday with one count of fourth offense operating while intoxicated and one count of resisting an officer. If convicted, he faces nearly two years in prison and $12,000 in fines.

At 6:40 p.m. Sunday, a Brookfield police officer was stopped in his squad car on Bluemound Road near Calhoun Road, when a driver pulled next to him and said a “hammered” guy was driving a BMW eastbound. The man told the officer he was following the BMW for four miles and its driver nearly hit curbs and other cars while swerving in the traffic lane. The BMW's lights were not on, he added.
The Brookfield officer found the BMW and tried to pull it over, but its driver — Bruce — didn’t immediately stop and the officer sounded his squad siren twice. Once pulled over, Bruce said he lived in Illinois despite saying his current address was in Greenfield, and then said he had been drinking at a Waukesha bar with his daughter.

He failed field sobriety tests and had a blood alcohol level of 0.159, so he was placed under arrest for drunken driving and taken to Elmbrook Memorial Hospital. Once there, he refused to cooperate with officers, refused to take the blood test and physically fought officers as they tried to restrain him and place a spit shield over his head.
Bruce was released on $2,500 bond while awaiting trial.
