Man Accused of Stealing Nearly $1,300 in Hats, Clothes

Suspect tried to shove merchandise under the rear seat of a minivan when an officer tracked him and another man down.

A Milwaukee man is facing charges after he allegedly stole $588 worth of hats and $675 worth of clothing from stores at Brookfield Square mall.

Antiane Means, 41, was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court Monday with one count of misdemeanor retail theft and one count of receiving stolen property.

According to the criminal complaint, on Saturday an employee at Lids saw Means take numerous hats and place them in a plastic bag and then leave the store. The employee sought help and followed Means to the parking lot, seeing him get into a beige minivan.

A Brookfield police officer found the van and saw Means laying on the floor of the rear seat and shoving bags underneath. The driver was taken into custody for an outstanding warrant.
