Man Accused of Theft from New Berlin Mayor Faces More Charges
Man charged with stealing gun and more from New Berlin mayor allegedly stole checks and bank card from his Brookfield grandfather.
A New Berlin man accused of stealing a gun from Mayor Jack Chiovatero’s house is facing a litany of new charges for allegedly stealing checks and money from his grandfather and father.
Cory T. Naber, 22, who recently moved from Brookfield to New Berlin, was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court Friday with one count of burglary, five counts of felony bail jumping and four counts of identity theft. If convicted, he faces up to 66 years in prison.
Naber was released from jail on $3,000 cash bail July 26 after he was from Chiovatero’s house while staying there. Naber is a friend of the mayor’s daughter.

According to the criminal complaint filed Friday:
In August, Naber stole a check card and checks from his grandfather’s Brookfield home and used them to obtain cash so he could buy heroin. He withdrew $102 twice from a New Berlin ATM machine and $182.50 from another machine in Milwaukee.

On Sept. 8, Naber’s grandfather was contacted by his bank after Naber and one of his friends tried to cash a check.
On Sept. 14, police were called to Naber’s father’s house in New Berlin after his son allegedly stole $75 worth of coins from his residence. He said Naber changed the garage code in order to gain entry to the house while his father was gone.
Naber was being held in jail on $5,000 cash bail.
