UPDATED: Man Charged With 13th OWI After Freeway Crash

A 50-year-old West Allis man was arrested for his 13th drunken driving offense early Wednesday morning on Interstate 94 just east of Moorland Road.

Kim F. Liebrecht was charged Wednesday in Waukesha County Circuit Court with his 13th operating while intoxicated offense. If convicted, he faces up to 7.5 years in prison. Liebrecht had a valid driver’s license at the time of his arrest. His last offense was in 2006 and his driver’s license was revoked for 3-1/2 years when he was also sentenced to 4-1/2 years in prison.

Liebrecht remains jailed in lieu of $100,000 bail.

According to the complaint:

The trooper was on westbound Interstate 94 in Brookfield when he spotted tire tracks in the snow leading up to a median barrier, which had been hit. A little farther down the freeway, the trooper saw a vehicle traveling at a slow speed, causing other drivers to take evasive action to avoid a crash.

The trooper pulled over the vehicle, which was driven by Liebrecht, who was traveling from Milwaukee to Waukesha. Liebrecht told the deputy when asked how much he had to drink, “not much.” Later, he admitted to having several drinks.

Liebrecht failed his field sobriety tests and had a .126 percent blood alcohol concentration.

Liebrecht previously was convicted of driving drunk on multiple occasions:

• 1989 – three offenses
• 1991 – two offenses
• 1993 – two offenses
• 1994 – one offense
• 1996 – two offenses
• 1999 – one offense
• 2006 – one offense
