Bad Backpack Request to Police Results in Drug Charges

Brookfield man wanted to get his backpack after getting escorted out of an Eagle residence and officers later discover drug paraphernalia inside of it.

A Brookfield man is facing felony charges after he asked a police officer to retrieve a backpack full of drug paraphernalia while being escorted out of a home in Eagle.

On Dec. 22, police were called to a home in the S10100 block of Markham Road in Eagle after someone complained about a threat. Reistad and another person were escorted from the home by a Waukesha County sheriff’s deputy, but while being taken out, Reistad asked if he could go back in to get a backpack.

The deputy said he would get the backpack and went into the home, but while looking for it, a woman inside the home said it was possible the backpack was full of heroin because Reistad and another man had 30 baggies of the drug earlier in the night.

The officer then asked Reistad if he could search it, but he said no. A drug sniffing dog was called in from New Berlin, which was able to detect drugs in the bag.

Police later executed a search warrant on the backpack where they found syringes and other items used to inject drugs intravenously.

Reistad is currently out of custody and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.
