Charges: Man Stole $2,000 in Items from JC Penney

Police say he and a woman stuffed bags with merchandise.

A 46-year-old Milwaukee man was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court Tuesday after he and a female accomplice allegedly tried to steal $2,200 worth of clothes from at Brookfield Square mall.

Timothy M. Harris was charged with one count of misdemeanor theft as a party to a crime, after the couple was spotted by Brookfield police officers trying to steal the clothes from the department store.

According to the criminal complaint, at 11:50 a.m. Monday, a Brookfield police officer noticed Harris and a woman in the parking lot of the mall stuffing empty shopping bags into their jackets and her purse before walking into JC Penney.

The officer allegedly watched the couple steal items while in the store and then walk into the mall area.

The complaint alleges the woman was arrested in another store with $1,222 worth of jeans, blouses and dresses. Harris was arrested in the mall area and allegedly had $1,006 worth of pants, women’s shorts and dresses.

Harris is being held in the Waukesha County Jail on $1,000 cash bond. According to court records, the woman hasn’t been charged yet.
