Man Charged with Writing Bad Checks to Brookfield Coin Shop

Suspect, 58, has been sought in other communities for passing worthless checks.

A Park Ridge, Ill. man is facing charges after he allegedly wrote worthless checks to a Brookfield coin shop to obtain $4,000 worth of coins.

Wayne E. Kroll, 58, was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court Friday with one count of issuance of a worthless check. If convicted, he faces up to 3 Β½ years in prison and $10,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint, between July 28 and Aug. 5 of 2010, Kroll wrote three checks to Greater Milwaukee Coin, 4040 N. Calhoun Rd., to purchase gold pieces and coins. He wrote out the checks in front of employees each time, but all three, which totaled $4,042, were returned.

After the shop contacted police about the transactions, investigators discovered Derzon Coins in West Allis was also looking for Kroll after he also wrote them a bad check and he had also been arrested in Burr Ridge, Ill. for issuing worthless checks there.

Kroll will make his first appearance in Waukesha County Circuit Court Aug. 15.
