Brookfield Repeat Drunken Driver Sped 70MPH on Bluemound

A Brookfield man told police he had three beers before getting behind the wheel, charges allege.

A three-time convicted drunken driver was intoxiciated when he sped 70 mph on Bluemound Road early Saturday in Elm Grove, charges allege.

David W. Cote, 30, of Brookfield, was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court Monday with fourth offense operating while intoxicated and operating a motor vehicle after revocation of license. If convicted, he faces up to seven years in prison and $25,000 in fines.

At 1:37 a.m. Saturday, a Brookfield police officer spotted Cote driving an SUV eastbound on Bluemound Road, traveling at 70 miles per hour in a 45-mph speed zone. The officer followed Cote and pulled him over near Sunny Slope Road.

Cote smelled of alcohol and told the officer he drank three beers since 10:30 p.m. He failed field sobriety tests and was arrested and taken for a blood test.

Cote was convicted of OWI in 2007, 2008 and 2010.Β
