Man Drives Drunk While Spying on Ex-Girlfriend's New Man

Town of Brookfield neighbors called police after a motorist kept pulling into random driveways, police say.

A Waukesha man allegedly drove drunk in the Town of Brookfield while trying to spy on his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend.

David M. Dufek, 51, was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court Friday with fourth offense operating while intoxicated within five years. If convicted, he faces up to six years in prison and $10,000 in fines.

On Feb. 9, Town of Brookfield police were called to the neighborhood near Hillcrest Drive and Allen Road after residents reported a car was driving around the area and pulling into random driveways. After police spotted the car, Dufek sped up but was eventually pulled over in the parking lot of .

Dufek immediately got out of his car and began walking towards the squad until the officer told him to turn around and stand by his trunk. Dufek said he was coming from his sister-in-law’s house, but then changed his story, saying he found out his ex-girlfriend was dating a man who lived in the area and he wanted to find out more about him.

Dufek, who was pulled over at 3:45 p.m., told police he drank four vodka and lemonade drinks before driving. He had a blood alcohol level of 0.273, which is more than three times the legal limit to drive in Wisconsin.

Dufek was previously convicted of OWI in 2001 and twice in 2009.
