Man Shoots Heroin in Mall Family Restroom, ODs

Brookfield resident was found on the floor of a stall in restroom off the food court with all the trappings of a heroin rig. Police found more heroin in his pocket, leading to felony charge.

A Brookfield man who collapsed after shooting up heroin in a stall inside a family restroom at Brookfield Square mall has been charged with possession of the drug.

Jason G. Schienbein, 32, was charged Monday in Waukesha County Circuit Court with possession of narcotics and of drug paraphernalia, the former a felony punishable by up to three years and six months in prison.

According to police reports and the criminal complaint, at 12:28 p.m. a mall customer saw Schienbein lying on the floor in a toilet stall in the family restaurant off the food court. The customer quickly found a mall employee who radioed for emergency help, ran to the restroom, saw Scheinbien down and apparently unconscious.

Police and paramedics arrived to find Scheinbien sweating profusely, glassy- eyed and with dilated pupils, and barely able to speak. In the stall, on top of the toilet paper holder, were two syringes, a cooking tin blackened on the bottom and with a brown residue inside, a cotton swab and a lighter.

There was also a folder containing mail and legal papers identifying Schienbein.

Schienbien admitted he'd shot up in the bathroom stall and that all the property found there was his. He was searched, and officers found a tin foil "bindle" in his pocket that contained .06 gram of heroin.

Schienbein was sent to Elmbrook Memorial Hospital for observation and was arrested after he was cleared for release.
