Masked Prowlers Throw Homeowner into a Tizzy

Intruders scale a fence between a bank and a residence, possibly intent on something untoward, but police are content to see them go without an arrest.

Brookfield by day is usually a fairly peaceful place – but the night belongs to stealthy ne'er-do-wells.

At 12:52 a.m. July 26, a resident of the 16700 block of Dane Court called police to report that prowlers had climbed over her fence from the adjoining US Bank property and were now hiding in the woods behind her house.

She said they had scaled the fence and then fallen or rolled down the hill on her property.

Staying on the line before officers arrived, she said now they were climbing back over the fence toward the bank.

The caller then acknowledged that she could not actually see the prowlers, but she could certainly hear them rattling the fence as they climbed over. She said a spotlight was now on in her back yard, and she believed that was what scared them off.

A half-dozen police officers surrounded the area and soon spotted the masked intruders – a couple of raccoons. They were no doubt bent on some mischief, but no field interrogation was conducted and they were allowed to go on their way.
