More than $200K in Jewelry Stolen From Home

A home security system was not operating when a Brookfield home was burglarized during the day Friday, with cash and jewelry stolen.

More than $200,000 in jewelry was stolen in a daytime home burglary Friday, when the alarm system was not activated and the door was unlocked, police reports say.

Brookfield police were called at 3 p.m. Friday by the Bradford Lane homeowner who said his wife had just discovered the burglary, which occurred between 11 a.m. and 2:45 p.m.

The woman said initial searches found more than $200,000 in jewelry, including men's and women's items, as well as about $500 in cash was taken.

It did not appear that other items such as electronics were stolen, and police were investigating whether the burglar knew the jewelry existed or just stumbled upon it, Police Capt. Jim Adlam said. There were no suspects.

The homeowners do have a large, barking dog but it was unknown whether neighbors heard barking or saw anything suspicious. There was no forced entry.
