Pistol Pete's Targeted by Scam Involving 150-Sandwich Order

But the pub's manager resisted multiple scam attempts, eventually calling police on the persistent caller using a hearing impaired phone system.

The food order was a surprising one: 150 chicken sandwiches.

But employees at in Brookfield became suspicious when the caller β€” using a device for the hearing impaired β€” kept calling back about how payment would be handled.

According to a police report:

The caller did provide a credit card number, but the pub's manager said she was too wary to run the card in fear it was a scam. She told police the man called back several times in the past 10 days, prompting her to call officers.

Officers said it appeared the call originated from Florida and appeared to be a scam. Pistol Pete's manager couldn't be reached for comment.

The Better Business Bureau in Minnesota recently warned of the 150-sandwich scam, in which scammers attempt to have businesses play middle man in reimbursing a delivery company to pick up the large order.
