Police Blotter: Lewd Behavior and Car Break-ins

The latest police calls include investigations for theft, burglary and indecent exposure.

Police caught a man exposing his genitals behind an apartment building where he was stealing Internet service to download pornography, reports allege.

Officers confronted the 31-year-old Brookfield man behind an apartment building south of at 3:15 a.m. Sunday, according to a report. Police issued him a municipal citation for lewd and lascivious behavior.

Change of heart? Employees at , 12735 W. Capitol Dr., called police Friday evening about a retail theft in progress of liquor and condoms. But when police arrived and confronted three men ages 17 to 19 in a van in the parking lot, the men confessed they had thought about stealing the items but decided against it. Police found the items on a shelf inside the store where the men said they had left them.

Suspicious behavior: Officers gave a 55-year-old man a ride home after they found him videotaping skateboarders at Sunday afternoon. The man, who had a 0.14 blood-alcohol level, said the skateboarders had given him permission to film them, and that he planned to post the video on YouTube.

During a consensual search of the man's vehicle trunk, officers found a backpack with women's clothing, underwear and makeup. The man said he had a photography business and photographs women in those outfits. 

Errant golf ball: A motorist told police that while he was driving on Moorland Road, a golf ball from , 1200 Club Circle, struck and damaged the windshield of his 2007 Honda Accord. No golfers were found.

Racial slur: A Lucy Circle resident said a 73-year-old man called her a racial slur during an argument outside her home about 8 a.m. June 28. She said the man must have seen an Obama/Biden political sign in her yard and that he called her an "Obama lover" and used a racial slur. The man told police he would avoid future conflicts with the woman.

Theft of copper and appliances: Someone stole copper piping, washing machines and water heaters from a vacant four-unit building on Hoffman Avenue after kicking in the front door. Police were alerted on June 28. A bank owns the property.

Heavy heist: Someone removed and stole 75-pound batteries from Mack and Freightliner trucks parked in the Musson Bros. fenced lot, 4215 N. 124th St. The theft of $1,440 in heavy duty batteries occurred sometime from 6 p.m. Friday and 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Thefts from trailers:

  • The padlocks on a car haul trailer were cut and a 2000-watt generator was stolen along with two cases of motor oil and a floor jack. The theft occurred between June 4 and July 4 at 4215 N. 127th St. A bottle of nasal spray was found near the trailer.
  • About $1,100 worth of equipment was stolen from other locked trailers outside the same address on North 127th Street sometime between 12:30 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday.
  • An open bed trailer was stolen June 28 from the rear lot of Weedman Lawn Care, 1425A Commerce Ave., after someone broke a lock.

Fox Brook Park parking dispute:  and its swimming area was so busy on the Fouth of July that patrons were parking in an archery lot across Barker Road and walking to the park. A man complained that he couldn't use the archery that afternoon because all of its parking stalls were full even though no one was at the range. Police issued citations for illegal parking. Fox Brook Park officials said the park was closed because the beach was over capacity.

Theft from hotel: A woman reported more than $2,500 in electronics, jewelry and clothing stolen Sunday from a hotel room at the , 950 S. Pinehurst Ct. The woman told police she had a suspected thief.

Dancing in the streets: Police warned two teens, ages 14 and 15, after residents complained the youth were running and dancing in the streets, waving tree branches at passing cars in the Lamplighter and other subdivisions about 3 p.m. on the Fourth of July.

Throwing water balloons at cars: Officers received two reports of someone throwing water balloons at cars near Pilgrim Road and Capitol Drive after 10 p.m. Sunday but were unable to find anyone. 

Theft from vehicles:

  • Money and sunglasses were stolen from two unlocked cars about 1 p.m. Monday in the 4500 block of North 145th Street.
  • A GPS unit and wallet was taken from a Toyota Avalon whose window was smashed outside , 17430 W. Blue Mound Rd., before 3 p.m. Sunday.
  • Cash and two prescription bottles were stolen from a purse inside an unlocked car parked outside , sometime between 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Thursday.

Road rage rollover: Police were investigating whether a road rage incident caused a rollover traffic accident that injured at least one woman. An SUV rolled over two or three times before anding on its roof during a crash on westbound I-94 at Barker Road about 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

Driving around railroad gates: Engineers at CP Rail fixed gates at North Calhoun Road and Pheasant Drive after they lowered and stayed activated about 5 a.m. Sunday even though there were no trains in the area. 

The above items are from reports from local police departments. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
