Police Blotter: Teenage Driving Practice Gone Bad

The latest police calls include a teenage boy who had a rough time learning how to drive, a prank gone too far and skateboarding complaints.

A teenage boy learning how to drive had a rough practice Sunday when he struck a tree and an office building while training with his father.

A Cottage Grove man called police about 4 p.m. Sunday to say his son had problems shifting and struck the office building that houses 245 S. Executive Dr., breaking a 3-foot-by-6-foot window.

The teen also struck a tree.

The window had to be boarded up. There was no word on where the teen will be practicing next.

Prank gone too far? A resident in the 1000 block of Vista View Drive called police to say he believed suspects "went too far" by not only toilet papering his trees, but smashing watermelons on his driveway and throwing items on the house roof sometime Friday night into Saturday morning.

Unusual squatters: A Brookfied woman called police Friday to report concern that someone had been in a home in the 2700 block of Brookside Lane that has been vacant since November and is for sale. She said she found black all over the walls of the tub and "possibly old wet cigars" in the tub and toilet. There was no evidence showing how the home was entered. 

Further investigation found the fireplace door open and balls of fur near it. Police said it appeared raccoons had entered through the uncovered fireplace flue on the roof and had "nested in the fireplace area, using the bathroom as a bathroom." Officers referred the owner to an animal exterminator.

Phone theft: Officers were investigating the theft Sunday of a $350 Android phone that was on display at the Sprint store, 16075 W. Blue Mound Road.

Sign of spring? City highway crews Sunday removed a dead goose from the road near Cedar Drive and North Avenue.

Domestic disturbance: Police were searching for a Brookfield man after his wife said he beat her about 1 a.m. Saturday in their Brookfield apartment in the 23700 block of Green Road. The man fled in a Dodge Stratus.

Harassing text image: A Brookfield woman said she received two texts about 11:30 p.m. Friday. The first said "Can you handle this," and the second was a photo of a naked man. Police were tracking down the sender and believed it was sent to the woman in error. 

Domestic disturbance: A woman called police after her mother, 87, who has dementia, suddenly attacked her with a kitchen knife, cutting both women in the process. The incident, in the 2000 block of Rockway Lane, occurred as the daughter was helping her mother walk down the hall after returning home from a medical appointment about 4:30 p.m. Friday.

Lawn mower theft: A Butler man said someone cut the chain that tied his riding mower to a tree outside his building in the 16700 block of Pheasant Drive, sometime between Wednesday and Friday.  He said the used mower was worth about $125.

Skateboarders cited: Four men, ages 19 to 25, received municipal citations for trespass to land after skateboarding outside on Saturday afternoon. The business said it has a "no skateboarding" sign posted, but a group of about 20 people were skateboarding and videotaping their moves in the parking lot at 13105 W. Blue Mound Road. Officers gave warnings to all but four who had prior contacts with police for skateboarding in illegal locations.
