Police Called on Black Friday Recall Walker Drives

Advocates trying to collect signatures to recall Gov. Scott Walker were told to stay off some business properties and stick to public sidewalks, and no arrests were made.

Brookfield police responded to at least seven complaints about Recall Walker petition signing drives on Black Friday but no arrests were made or citations issued.

Several businesses β€” including on Capitol Drive, the , and Brookfield Square mall β€” asked police to keep the recall Gov. Scott Walker activities off their properties and away from interfering with their traffic entrances.

Police ushered recall advocates onto public sidewalks and told them not to ask passing motorists on busy Moorland Road to stop to sign recall petitions, according to police reports.

Reports said advocates complied and few violations were found. According to reports:

One person standing in the median near 17300 West Blue Mound Road was asked to move to a sidewalk about 11:30 a.m. Friday.

Employees at North Shore Bank on Capitol Drive called police about noon after recall supporters did not move their vehicles out of the bank parking lot, and employees said they were obstructing traffic. Supporters then did move the vehicles and after two cars were parked illegally on Brook Lane, that also was corrected.

The Sheraton told police it didn't want to be associated with either pro- or anti-recall demonatrations, and shortly before 1 p.m. the five people near the hotel driveway (three supporting a recall, two opposed) agreed to stay on public areas and were "cooperative."
