Police Reports: Turn Down That Packer Game, Dead Skunk and Church Burglary

Someone used a pry tool to burglarize a Brookfield church, stealing $40 to $60 from a file cabinet, while a second church reported a theft, according to police reports.

, 1755 N. Calhoun Rd., told police that someone stole two video cameras from the music room sometime between Thursday evening and Friday morning.

About 350 people were at the parish that evening for Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, and police were investigating the theft.

Meanwhile, Peace United Methodist Church, 12860 W. North Ave., was burglarized between 9 p.m. Oct. 17 and 8:25 a.m. Wednesday. Someone pried open a north side door and two locked office doors inside to steal from a file cabinet.

Turn down that Packers noise: Police got a complaint that a man was "blaring" the Packers-Vikings game Sunday afternoon from speakers mounted outside his house as he did yard work. Officers said when they arrived at the home in the 4600 block of N. 143rd St. the game was "not that loud" but the 48-year-old man agreed to turn it down.

Texting while driving? An officer stopped a car after it swerved and almost hit another car on Capitol Drive during morning rush hour Wednesday. The officer checked the cell phone of its driver, a 35-year-old Menomonee Falls woman, to see if she had been texting, but there was no record of texts sent or received. The woman told the officer she swerved because she had to grab a doll her upset 18-month-old daughter had dropped in the back seat. Officers warned her to pull over in the future should she need to reach into the back.

Dead skunk: A dead skunk in a bag was left on the front porch of a home in the 2500 block of Anita Drive about 1 a.m. Sunday. The homeowner told police she has had other vandalism problems such as toliet papering. The skunk was removed.

Egged car: A homeowner in the 300 block of Manor Court reported no permanent damage after his car was hit by six eggs overnight Oct. 18.

Road rage: Police stopped two cars near , 12935 W. Blue Mound Rd., about 12:30 a.m. Sunday. The two drivers accused each other of throwing objects at each other's vehicles on I-94 before they got off the interstate and eventually out of their cars to verbally joust. One said the other was "brake-checking" him on his way back from the . When told both would be arrested for disorderly conduct if they pressed charges, they apologized to each other and agreed to drop the dispute. One drive, however, got a citation for operating with a suspended license.

Dog death after dog attack: A Wessex Drive woman told police Oct. 23 that her dog had to be put down due to injuries sustained in an Oct. 17 attack from another dog. She said she was walking her dog near the 17400 block of Echo Lane when a dog came off his leash and attacked her dog. The was investigating the case.

Jewelry case theft: A display case of jewelry was stolen from at Brookfield Square mall about 2:30 p.m. Friday. An employee said a man stole the case with gold rings, earrings, necklaces and chains while a female distracted the employee.

Pink flamingos in road: Someone called police at 2:32 p.m. Thursday to report plastic pink flamingos were in the road near 18010 Lisa Lane. Two minutes later, they were moved out of traffic. A half-hour after that, a Lisa Lane resident called to complain that police put the flamingos in his elderly neighbor's ditch. He said he would remove and dispose of them.

Cigarettes theft: Two males, estimated at 12 and 16 years old, grabbed armfuls of Newport cigarette packs and other merchandise before a clerk at , 17235 W. Blue Mound Rd., was able to grab them at 3 p.m. Friday.

Thefts from vehicles: Someone stole a radar detector from a Chevy Tahoe parked in a driveway in the 1000 block of Alfred Street between 7:30 p.m. Thursday and 5 p.m. Friday. An employee at reported someone entered her Civic, stealing a laptop and purse, sometime overnight Thursday into Friday at 13780 W. Greenfield Ave.

Domestic dispute: Officers were called to the 17000 block of Royalcrest Drive about 7 p.m. Friday and a 16-year-old girl accused her mother of slapping her in the face and hitting her shoulder during an argument. The mother denied that and no action was taken.

Cats and dogs in busy roads: A black -and-white cat was reported running in and out of traffic on busy Moorland Road near Brookfield Square mall about 7:30 p.m. Friday but police couldn't find the cat. Meanwhile, a large black lab was running in traffic near Pilgrim Road and Washington Drive, evading an officer who finally caught it and took the dog, who had a Harley Davidson collar and possible injury, to the .

Train gate crossing struck: An older model white work van with lettering on the side struck a railroad crossing gate and drove off about 8:20 a.m. Saturday, another motorist told police. CP Rail was called to fix the broken arm and busted wires.

Water problems: The city water department was notified of a large amount of water flowing from the ground near , 17000 W. Capitol Dr. about 5:20 a.m. Saturday. A "massive" water leak by the U.S. Bank property, 16900 W. Capitol Dr., also was reported about 12:30 p.m. Saturday, and city water crews erected barricades to control the leak it said was coming from a private water system.

Attempted scrap metal theft: Police arrested two men, both 27, for trespassing after a witness caught them crawling under a fence trying to steal scrap metal near 4275 N. 127th St. shortly before 3 p.m. Saturday.

Jewelry theft: An Iowa City, Iowa woman told police someone stole her $550 in jewelry from her hotel room at the , 375 S. Moorland Rd., overnight Saturday while she was not there. The hotel's lock system, however, showed that no one had entered her room during that time period.

Boat theft: Three hunting boats were taken from trailers in the backyard of a home in the 21000 block of Cambridge Circle Upper sometime between Oct. 16 and Sunday. Two boats were 12 feet; one was 10 feet.

Juveniles warned: Three 13-year-old boys were warned and their parents contacted to pick them up after they were caught lighting a piles of leaves on fire under a pavillion at , 2585 Pilgrim Rd., about 4:30 p.m. Sunday. As a bicyclist saw the fire and approached them, they ran into the woods but were found by police. The fire was extinguished.

Business theft: Twenty-three bronze valve assemblies, each weighing 20 pounds and worth a total of $4,500, were reported stolen from Pentair Water, 20580 Enterprise Ave., between Sept. 1 and Oct. 18.

Bank robbery? 's burglar alarm went off at 3:55 p.m. Thursday. But police learned a teller had accidentially set it off by pushing in his window drawer "too enthusiastically."
