Police Report: Field Damage, Stolen Safe, Obama/Baldwin Sign Complaint

A Pick 'n Save store had little trouble identifying a woman who shoplifted razor blades: she first used her ID and Roundy's card to pick up something at the pharmacy, police say.

The grocery store at 12735 W. Capitol Dr. caught the woman on video Aug. 23 stealing three eight-packs of Gillette sensor razor blades — after she was at the pharmacy with her identification.

Police, however, could find no legal address for the 44-year-old woman, and sought a warrant for her arrest.

In other recent police activity:

Prank, not theft: Someone was seen taking a license plate off a Chevy Trailblazer in the Champps Americana parking lot and then walking into the Country Suites hotel just after midnight Tuesday. A police review found it was a prank on a friend, both men told police. 

Dangerous prank: Police got a call that saran wrap was tied across Brookfield Road, attached to two signs near a park in the Weston Hills subdivision. Police removed the saran wrap as well as a garbage can and other items from the road about 11 p.m. Saturday.

Soccer field damage: Someone drove onto five field soccer fields near 19395 W. Lisbon Rd. between 7:30 p.m. Aug. 24 and 8 a.m. Aug. 25, doing doughnuts that caused damage. The fields to the Moore Oil field was the worst because it was irrigated. Also damage to fields on VK Homes, Elmbrook Dental and Soerens Ford.

Stolen safe: A Sherman Williams store, 18525 W. Bluemound Rd., reported being burglarized Aug. 22. Someone pried open a back door and stole a floor safe with a small amount of cash and checks.

Obama / Tammy Baldwin campaign signs damaged: A man in the 1100 block of Winston Park Court said three times in the past week a bicyclist had knocked over Barack Obama and Tammy Baldwin signs in his yard along a sidewalk. He asked for more patrols on Calhoun north of Winston Park Court.

Kid's big wheel type trike stolen: A children's Green Machine, similar to a Big Wheel, worth $100 was stolen from a driveway in the 14000 block of W. Glendale Ave. between 4 and 6:30 p.m. Monday. 

Keep those scooters out of the road: Police received complaints about a father and son racing gas-powered scooters in the road on Beverly Drive Monday afternoon. Police told them they weren't permitted. The father said the salesman told him they were legal to drive on streets but would keep them on his property in the future.

Car hits bicyclist: A woman called police from the Elmbrook Memorial Hospital emergency room about 3:45 p.m. Monday, saying a vehicle had struck her son when he was riding a bike about 1:30, causing road rash and a possible mouth injury. The vehicle driver took her son home but didn't report the accident, as of Tuesday.

Senior defrauded of $5,000: An 80-year-old Brookfield woman told police Monday she got a call from a man who said he was with the internal fraud audit division of her bank. He said someone had accessed her account and he wanted to set up the suspect. She did as he asked: withdrew $5,000 and gave it to a man about 60 years old whom she met at a business. She then went to her bank location and learned it was a scam. Police were seeking video from the meeting location.

Counterfeit cash: A fake $5 bill was passed at the Pick 'n Save at 12735 W. Capitol Dr. between 6 a.m. and 8:52 p.m Sunday.

Disturbing claim: A 57-year-old man came to Elmbrook Memorial Hospital about 6 p.m. Sunday with a plastic bag he said contained a live fetus. The bag actually contained a carton of eggs, a slice of cheese and a baby bottle. The man refused the hospital's request to run some tests on him and police said there wasn't enough to involuntarily commit him. He was released against medical advice.

Sick raccoons:

• A resident in the 20700 block of Lincolnshire Court said there was a sick raccoon in her front yard about 2 p.m. Sunday; the Elmbrook Humane Society was called to come and dispatch it.
• On Friday morning, another injured or sick raccoon was reported curled in the middle of the 2600 block of Spencer Lane and the shelter was called.
• A dead raccoon was reported Aug. 23 on the side of the road near a foot path near Pilgrim Parkway and Kata Drive. The county Highway Department was called to remove it. 

Complaint about elderly driver: A woman in the 16600 block of Pepper Lane set up traffic cones and no parking signs on the grass across the street from an elderly neighbor the woman said backs out of her driveway without looking behind her. She said she did it to prevent anyone from parking there and possibly being struck. Police on Sunday afternoon removed the cones and signs but advised the elderly woman about safe driving.

Toliet paper prank? Four girls, about 14 years old, were warned after police found them with toliet paper running around near Pick 'n Save, 17295 W. Capitol Dr. shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday. The girls said they had "snuck out to meet boys" and claimed they had not engaged in any toliet papering. The four were returned to a parent at whose house they were all spending the night, with police planning to contact all parents in the morning.

Juvenile problem: A man in the 4100 block of N. 133rd St. called police to report two vehicle with juveniles had been parked in front of his house about 11:45 p.m. Saturday. He said when he approached them to ask why they were there, they gave a sarcastic reply and he threw a water bottle at them. The homeowner said one boy threatened to kill him before driving off. The homeowner was highly intoxicated when officers arrived and could not provide a description.

Fireworks warning: A 49-year-old man in the 17900 block of Bonnie Lane was warned about violating the city's fireworks ordinance about 11 p.m. Saturday after callers said they had heard fireworks or gunshots for the past hour.

Scam avoided: A Cherokee Drive man told police Saturday he didn't fall for a call he got from someone telling him he won a new Mercedes and other prizes and needed to get a $200 gift card to claim them. Brookfield police called the scammer and said to bring the Mercedes to the police station. They got no response.

Wallet on dashboard of unlocked car stolen: A Racine man called police about 4:30 p.m. Saturday to say he lost his wallet with $15 from his unlocked car in the parking of Cousins, 3815 N. Brookfield Rd.

Sexual harassment: A front desk employee at Midway Best Western, 1005 S. Moorland Rd., said she got several calls between 2:30 and 3:25 a.m. Saturday from a man who commented about sexual acts and said he only made calls like that "because he has a small penis." He talked about reserving a room, at one point giving her two names, a Chicago address and phone but never followed through. When a police officer arrived, the man called again but hung up when police answered.

Workplace injury: A worker at Guhring Inc., 1455 N. Barker Rd., got his finger stuck in a machine tool and possibly broken before being taken to Elmbrook Memorial Hospital shortly after midnight Friday.

Mailboxes damaged: About a dozen mailboxes were reported damaged along Three Meadows Drive overnight Aug. 22 to 23.

DEA agent scam: A man in the 14900 block of San Raphael Drive told police Aug. 23 he and his wife had received calls from someone claiming to be a DEA agent seeking information. But when they called the Milwaukee DEA office, they learned it was a fraud.
