Police Report: Copper Thefts, 'Loving,' Texting and Driving

Copper piping or wiring was reported stolen at three Brookfield locations in the past week, with one site losing $10,000 in copper wiring and power cables.

Someone cut through a locked fence to steal copper wiring from generators on the U.S. Cellular property, 3545 N. 124th St., overnight Nov. 22 to 23, police reports say. Twenty-foot power cables on six trailer generators were cut off, with a total loss of about $10,000.

, 20880 Enterprise Ave., reported the theft of $4,200 worth of copper pipe and wire from five vehicles, also sometime overnight Nov. 22 to 23, reports say. Fifty 20-inch sections of copper pipe were stolen, as well as four spools of copper wire.

Thirty pounds of copper wire was stolen from the Target construction site at 12725 W. Blue Mound Rd. sometime between Nov. 19 and 21.

Gun theft: A Browning 12-gauge shotgun and a Marlin rifle were stolen from a locked truck in the driveway of a home in the 14700 block of Woodland Place between Nov. 23 and Friday.

Just "loving": Police found two adults under a blanket in the back of a Mitsubishi Eclipse parked outside about 4 p.m. Nov. 23. The couple said they were "loving" and were told to leave the lot.

Church theft: Two locked coin boxes were pried open in the chapel and lobby at , 1755 N. Calhoun Rd., sometime between Nov. 23 and Friday. An unknown amount of money was taken.

Threatening email: A Capone Court resident asked police to try to determine the sender of an email he received Friday that read: "Hello!! How are you today? Hope your doin fine cause this is your last day to live (expletive)! (Expletive) you."

Fake IDs: 13430 W. Greenfield Ave., turned into police Friday two suspected fake Wisconsin driver's licenses they confiscated from the same patron they suspected was making his own IDs. 

Gum as ID: Asked for his ID, a driver gave an officer a pack of gum during a traffic stop at 3:34 a.m. Saturday. Police cited the driver, a 28-year-old man, for first-offense drunken driving and notified his state probation agent about the impaired driving and strong odor of marijuana in the vehicle.

Winter coats theft: Two men stole a half-dozen women's Cogi wool coats valued at $100 each and ran out the rear emergency fire escape doors at , 12575 W. Capitol Dr. about 10 a.m. Saturday. The men were suspected in another coat theft there Nov. 16.

Texting and driving before side-swipe: A driver told police he was texting and driving before he accidentally left the road and side-swiped a vehicle about 1:30 a.m. Friday in the 19000 block of Ashbourne Lane. The driver, a 25-year-old man, kept driving home and contacted police about 11:45 a.m. Saturday to say he went back but couldn't find the vehicle. Residents in that area were checking with guests who had been at their home to see if anyone had any damage.

Potty dial? Accidental 911 calls are a routine part of the police blotter, often caused by so-called "pocket dials." But when dispatchers called back a 911 hangup at 8:02 p.m. Saturday, the Wynfield Court resident explained he had dropped his phone in the toliet. He said after it dried, he put the battery back in it and the phone automatically dialed 911.

Butler Skateland mutual aid... again: Brookfield police responded to Butler Skateland, 12400 W. Custer Ave. about 8:30 p.m. Saturday to help break up a large crowd gathered outside with talk about a possible fight. Brookfield also responded to Skateland Nov. 12 after a report that three males planned to "shoot up the place." The males, however, left and no weapon was observed.

Marijuana at Wirth Park: Two 18-year-old men were cited for possession of marijuana about 10 p.m. Saturday at , 2505 Pilgrim Rd.

Snow sticks found in yard: A man in the 2300 block of Wynfield Court called police Sunday to say he found about 25 to 30 snow sticks in his front yard. He said he planned to put them in a pile to see if his neighbors claimed them.

Equipment theft: Fans and cooling units were reported stolen from a $5,000 rooftop air conditioning unit Nov. 23 at Pillar Induction, 21905 Gateway Rd.

Newspaper delivery on hold: A Journal Sentinel delivery woman fell asleep while her car was still rolling slowly down Hoffman Drive about 8:30 a.m. Thursday. A neighbor called police after she went out and knocked on the car door.

Burnt food on Thanksgiving: Fire crews were called to a smoke detector alarm just before midnight Thursday in the 2100 block of LeChateau Drive but were called off the case when told it was just burned food.

Bluemound Bowl dispute: Police dispersed about 20 people outside at 12:08 a.m. Friday after a bartender cut off some people from drinking and there was a dispute about whether the bar was closing early. Some needed taxis called.

Not a good getaway plan? A 21-year-old man grabbed a beer at the PDQ, 21980 Watertown Rd. about 10:40 p.m. Sunday, stuffed it in his pocket and ran out the door. As he hopped on a skateboard, the beer fell out of his pocket and he fled.
