Police Report: Embezzlement, Dog Rescue and Dog Disputes

Latest police calls include property damage at Half Price Books by an angry customer, stolen property at a construction site and more.

Detectives were investigating a potential case of embezzlement at Milwaukee Mailing & Shipping Systems, 17020 Pheasant Dr.

A business representative told police he believed a former employee had stolen more than $30,000 between August and January after opening a credit card in the employee's name, according to police reports.

The employee was let go from the business in January and allegedly confessed to the theft with an apology and promise to repay the funds.

In other recent police calls:

  • A train with engine problems and leaking water was stopped on the railroad tracks near Pilgrim Road about 12:45 a.m. Monday. Crews were called to fix and move the train. 
  • A grey Chevy Impala was swerving in the westbound lanes of Moorland Road and struck a curb about 5:30 p.m. Sunday. Its driver, a 55-year-old woman, was issued a municipal citation for first-offense drunken driving after a test showed a 0.15 blood-alcohol level. 
  • A man was arrested on suspicion of battery and strangulation for allegedly turning a verbal argument with his wife into a physical altercation in the 1400 block of Constitution Drive after 11 a.m. Sunday.  
  • A dog was rescued from a drainage pipe behind a parking lot at 17390 Crest Hill Dr. about 7:15 a.m. Sunday. Police got a call shortly before 7 a.m. after a dog fell into a drain. Officers called the Elmbrook Humane Society, but firefighters were able to coax the dog out an opening.
  • At 3:10 a.m. Sunday, a gray Hyundai drove into some construction barrels for the I-94 repaving project and weaved between two westbound interstate lanes. The driver, a 48-year-old woman, was cited for municipal first-offense drunken driving after being stopped near I-94 and Barker Road.
  • Police were alerted to a driver who appeared to be passed out in a car at Hackberry Lane and Moorland Road about 2:45 a.m. Sunday. But the driver had "had a long day working (with) very little sleep (and) pulled over to rest a bit," reports say.
  • Police were investigating a man's complaint on Saturday that family members might have stolen items from their deceased relative's home in the 21800 block of Gumina Road. A list of missing items was being prepared for officers.
  • Retail theft charges were filed against two people who conspired to steal about $87 worth of perfume from , 115 S. Moorland Rd., about 7:20 p.m. Friday.
  • A 43-year-old man stole cold medicine and vitamins from , 12735 W. Capitol Dr., about 7:15 p.m. Friday. Police issued charges of misdemeanor retail theft and possession of drug paraphernalia. 
  • A sixth-grader struck another student with a water bottle on a school bus at 3 p.m. Friday at Pilgrim Road and Capitol Drive. The mother of the boy who was struck said both students have Aspergers and she would handle the incident at home without further police involvement. 
  • A man called police to express concern that he hadn't been able to reach his mother for an hour since they ended a phone conversation because someone was at her door. It turned out the woman, 70, had stepped outside to get a package and accidentally locked herself out of the house in the 17000 block of Prince George Court after noon Friday. She had to call her daughter to get back in the house and told police she would call her son to let him know she was fine.
  • A Half Price Books customer, upset about being asked to prove ownership of books he was trying to sell, clogged the store's restroom toilet with paper towels. The store said it was going to mail a letter to the 24-year-old customer, banning him from returning to the store and was not interested in pressing charges.
  • A coyote "thin and gaunt with missing hair" was seen near West North Avenue and North Brookfield Road about 10:20 a.m. Friday.
  • A federal tax return check was found near , 12645 W. Capitol Dr., about 5 p.m. Thursday and turned into the police department. Officers said they would contact the person identified on the check.
  • A disabled Wonder Bread truck was towed away from the area of West Greenfield Avenue and South Carriage Lane about 8:30 a.m. Thursday. 
  • A Germantown contractor said someone stole $1,850 worth of tools (two framing guns, one trim gun and a 28-volt Milwaukee Tool cordless tool kit) from a work trailer and garage area in the 3600 block of North 126th Street  sometime before Wednesday.
  • A homeowner in the 1200 block of Indianwood Drive found a mouse trap box on her front porch Wednesday morning. She said someone had moved it from the side of the house where she had placed it.
  • A dispute over ownership of a dog led police Wednesday to warn a Brookfield woman to stop making harassing phone calls to a Johnson Creek woman or seek legal action to resolve the dispute. The Johnson Creek woman said she got the dog from the Brookfield woman who was now demanding the dog's return.
