Police Report: 2-Carat Ring Missing, $1.5K in North Face Coats Stolen, Target Site Hit Again

In other police reports, someone put baloney in a woman's mailbox and four men were cited for trespassing after riding ATVs in Sileno Quarry.

The same retail thief is suspected of stealing coats from North Face twice in three days, fleeing with a total of about $1,700 worth of merchandise, police reports say.

North Face, which recently opened at Brookfield Square mall and has an exterior mall entrance, called police about 8 p.m. Thursday to report a man stole two parkas worth about $558 before fleeing in a car with a loud muffler.

About 5 p.m. Sunday, North Face staff called police again, saying they believed the same suspect had just stole three coats worth $1,147 before fleeing in a Honda four-door with unknown Texas license plates and a loud muffler.

Domestic disturbance: A 42-year-old Hastings Drive man was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence/disorderly conduct shortly after 7 p.m. Sunday. A man called police, saying his father had hit his mother during an argument. The father was ordered to stay away from the home for 72 hours.

Drugs in car: Officers who stopped a car for expired registration on Calhoun Road at Gebhardt Road smelled a "strong odor of marijuana" when they walked up to the driver's side door about 6:45 p.m. Saturday.

The 23-year-old driver said he and his passengers had smoked marijuana but had none left in the vehicle. He took field sobriety tests and did not show signs of impairment. But a search of the vehicle found about five grams of marijuana, a pipe, grinder and bottle with oxycodone and morphine tablets.

The driver was referred for possible state charges of possession of narcotics and drug paraphernalia. A passenger, 22, was cited for municipal possession of marijuana.

Target construction site hit again: Someone forced open a plywood opening and stole copper pipe and electrical cords from the Target site, 12821 W. Bluemound Rd., overnight Jan. 23 into 24. However, police followed two sets of footprints east and found the stolen property on the other side of Underwood Creek.

Dryer fires:

  • A fire alarm at , 1250 S. Moorland Rd., was a false alarm after a smoking dryer was fixed by unplugging the appliance shortly before noon Saturday.
  • A home in the 2400 block of Thornapple Lane had a dryer fire extinguished about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Burned food fires:

  • Burned food set off a fire alarm in a house in the 2700 block of Spencer Lane about 6:30 p.m. Thursday. All was fine.
  • A toaster problem with burned food set off a fire alarm at about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. All was fine.

Florescent light bulb fire: A bulb caused white smoke and set off an alarm about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 4500 block of Meadow View East. 

Baloney in mailbox: Someone put baloney in a woman's mailbox in the 3500 block of Pilgrim Road and damaged the box in the past two weeks. The woman said the property was vacant but soon to be occupied and sought increased patrols.

Busted mailboxes: Someone appeared to intentionally run over multiple mailboxes in the area of the 15000 block of Tulane Court, the city Highway Department reported to police about 5:30 a.m. Saturday.

Lost $5,000 Charriol ring: A St. Francis woman who works at , 200 N. Moorland Rd., told police she lost her $5,000 two-carat Charriol ring while at work between noon and 7 p.m. Thursday.

Trespassing on ATVs in Sileno Quarry: Four men, ages 19 to 22, were cited for trespassing, riding ATVs in the Sileno Quarry woods about 2 p.m. Friday. An officer saw an ATV pulled a sled across the quarry ice. No one was injured.

Coyote spottings: A woman reported a coyote in a backyard in the 200 block of North 166th Street shortly before 6 p.m. Thursday. A coyote was spotted in the 18300 block of Lamplighter Court about 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Grandson needs money scam: A Dane Court resident got a call Thursday morning, allegedly from his grandson who said he had had an accident in Spain and needed $2,500 wired to the American Embassy there. The Brookfield man's grandson was in Spanish class at which was planning a trip to Spain.

A Brookfield police officer called the number, for which someone answered "American Embassy — Barcelona." The person kept up the story until the police officer asked him to fax the information on Embassy letterhead and the man hung up. Police notified Brookfield Central in case the Spain trip information had been circumvented.

Homeless man given ride to overflow shelter in Waukesha: A 26-year-old man walked into No. 3 at 1345 S. Calhoun Rd. about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, asking for shelter. Fire officials called the , which after two other shelters had no room, referred him to an overflow shelter at 1721 Northview Road in Waukesha, to which he was given a ride.

School locker room theft: A Menomonee Falls woman said a $195 iPod touch was stolen from a bag in the locker room at , 3305 Lilly Rd. during a basketball game Tuesday afternoon.

Turning in ammunition: A Monterey Boulevard man on Wednesday morning dropped off 76 rounds of shot gun ammunition to the police department to be destroyed.

Phone fraud: A Cherokee Drive woman called police after learning from a collections agency that someone had opened a Sprint phone account in her name on Nov. 29, 2007 for a Dover, MA address and charged up $822 that was never paid.
