Police Report: Man on Dating Site Scams Woman out of $29,000

The latest police calls include a Brookfield woman who was scammed into wiring $29,000 to a man in Malaysia she met on Match.com.

A Brookfield woman was scammed by a man she met on the Match.com dating site, sending him $29,000 in Malaysia before he stopped communicating with her, police say.

The woman, 52, told police Saturday she never met the man in person but sent several payments via Western Union to him this year, according to police reports. The man told her he needed the money to pay taxes in order to tap an inheritance but it was a scam, officers say.

Sunday afternoon home burglary: Cash and jewelry were stolen from a home in the 18800 block of Stonehedge Drive between 11:45 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Sunday. Someone pried open the front door and two men were seeing in the yard carrying a pillowcase.

Underage drinking, drunken driving: A 17-year-old was arrested for first-offense drunken driving and four other teens, ages 17 and 18, were cited for underage drinking after being stopped by police just after midnight Sunday near Pomona Road and Farm Hill Court. An 18-year-old man also was cited for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia before all were released to their parents.

Cat stuck in minivan grill: A cat was found stuck in the front grill of a minivan parked at Brookfield Square mall Saturday after apparently crawling into the grill. The Elmbrook Humane Society was called to help remove the cat which did not belong to the van's owner.

Stolen trailer: A JP Cullen & Sons trailer was stolen between Saturday and Monday from a parking lot at 13040 Lisbon Road.

Bag of money found: A Wauwatosa woman said she found a paper Starbucks bag containing $180 on her vehicle windshield Friday at her Brookfield office, 16535 W. Blue Mound Rd. The bag had a note that read: "For what you think I did." The woman, 32, said she believes her ex-boyfriend broke her car window last week in Wauwatosa and left the bag to pay for the damage. She wanted the matter reported.

School bully complaint: A mother reported to police that her 13-year-old daughter had been bullied on the school bus and someone threw an empty water bottle at her Friday. Police called Wisconsin Hills Middle School officials who said there were reviewing the incident, and officers urged the mother to call police if other problems occur.

Jeans theft: Two pairs of jeans valued at $291 were stolen from The Buckle at Brookfield Square mall about 2 p.m. Thursday. A 19-year-old woman was arrested for retail theft after store security stopped her.

Knife pulled in road rage: After a vehicle allegedly cut off another car on Capitol Drive near North 162nd Street about 6:20 p.m. Wednesday, a passenger in one car got out and displayed a knife, telling another man he was "going to kill him and slit his throat," according to police reports. The man with the knife, a 21-year-old Brookfield man, fled on foot but eventually was found at his parents' house on Lisa Lane, where he was arrested on suspicion of endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon.

Phone stolen from school locker: A Brookfield Central High School student said his Blackberry Bolt cell phone was stolen from his gym locker shortly after 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Watch your money while shopping: A Franklin woman said her wallet was stolen from her purse while she was shopping at Toys 'R Us in Brookfield about 4 p.m. Wednesday. The wallet was found in the store's restroom with $100 cash and credit cards missing.

Student dispute: A Pewaukee woman told Brookfield police Wednesday she was not satisfied with how Christ the Lord Lutheran School had addressed an incident in which her 14-year-old daughter was struck by a 13-year-old boy at the school on Nov. 14. The school principal told police the matter would be disciplined.

Harassing calls: A North Hills Drive woman said she received five blocked calls Tuesday and Wednesday β€” all of which were silent except one in which a man sounded like he was "pleasuring himself."

Warning a 6-year-old: A Georges Avenue woman called police at 6 a.m. Wednesday to ask if an officer would talk to her 6-year-old son who was having anger and tantrums. She said he was in counseling and his counselor suggested having a police officer talk to him if he continued to act out. An officer did meet and speak with the boy.

Buck as burglar: A woman awoke to the sound of glass shattering shortly before 2 a.m. Nov. 15 in her condo in the 18700 block of Emerald Circle. Officers responding to a burglary instead found "hoofprints" and a buck limping away after crashing into the front door and breaking glass.
