Police Report: Obscene Phone Calls, Critter Crossings, Credit Card Scam

The latest police calls also include neighbor disputes and an iPhone theft.

Forget pedestrian crossings — how about an animal crossing?

Critters were causing traffic problems around the city in recent days. And that doesn't count the deer hit by some cars. According to police reports:

A woodchuck or beaver was getting stuck in busy Blue Mound Road in front of at noon Saturday as vehicles swerved around it. Later that afternoon, a turkey was strutting in the 15430 block of West Burleigh Road.

About 8 p.m. Sunday two "mean dogs" were running in a cul-de-sac around Woodberry Court, growling and chasing youth but no one was injured. And a black lab was running in and out of traffic Saturday morning near West Capitol Drive and North 138th Street. A caller finally caught the dog, which had collars, and took it to the .

Finally, a rabid raccoon was under a vehicle in a driveway in the 100 block of N. Columbia Blvd. on Sept. 28. Humane officers were called to pick it up.

Catching up on lost time: An officer checked on a car parked after 9 p.m. Sunday in the parking lot of the basefall fields at , 3140 Mitchell Park Dr. He found a woman, 18, and man, 19, inside who said they "decided to catch up on time lost away from each other." The officer warned them "for their inappropriate behavior" and sent them on their way.

Obscene phone calls: A Brookhill Drive woman told police Sunday that for the last two weeks she had received calls from an unknown man with a blocked phone number who makes obscene remarks. Police urged her to ask her telephone company to trace the caller.

iPhone stolen: A Dousman man said he left his iPhone 4 in the restroom at , 17395 W. Blue Mound Rd. When he went to look for it, it was gone. The phone was canceled and the provider erased all information on it.

Stealing gas: A dark Nissan Maxima drove off from , 15565 W. Blue Mound Rd. about 9:30 p.m. Saturday without paying for $35.26 in gas. About the same time, a marroon PT Cruiser also left BP without paying for $38.38 in pumped gasoline.

Conspiracy theories: Brookfield police were called to an apartment in the 17400 block of River Birch Drive about 10:30 a.m. Sept. 29 for a complaint of a resident making loud noises. A 49-year-old woman told officers she "was stomping on the floor because she does not like Indian people. (She) says she believes the Indian people in her apartment building are hacking into her computer and cell phone and trying to take down the infrastruture of the United states of America." Officers warned her she could face disorderly conduct charges if there were more noise problems.

Cab ride dispute: A cab driver called police about 11 p.m. Sept. 29 after getting in an argument over fares with four riders he had picked up from a bar on Water Street in Milwaukee and taken to the parking lot in Brookfield at 12460 W. Capitol Dr. Ultimately, officers settled the fare dispute and called another cab company to pick up the four men in their 30s and drive them to the Hilton Inn in Milwaukee.

Another cab ride rescue: About 11:15 p.m. Friday police responded to a report of an intoxicated woman in a business lot at 3220 N. 126th St., crying that she needed a ride home and might urinate in the lot. Officers learned the 29-year-old woman had been drinking at , where she got in an argument with someone and left on foot. After neither her husband nor mother could come pick her up, officers took her to the police station where a cab came to bring her home.

Arcing downed wires, some flames: We Energies was called about 11:30 p.m. Sept. 29 after wires were reported down on Woodland Place, Pilgrim Parkway and Apple Tree Lane, with flames at the latter road. Train gates also were malfunctioning at Pilgrim Road.

Where is my satellite dish? An Apple Tree Lane woman called police Friday to say she returned from vacation to find her satellite dish gone. Upon closer inspection, she found it on the roof where it has always been.

Neighbor disputes: An ongoing feud between two neighbors on Weston Hills Drive and Avondale continued last week, with one accusing the other of harassing videotaping. Officers urged the parties to get restraining orders, ignore each other or plant a hedge along their property line.

Police also were called to intervene between neighbors in the 4600 block of N. 186th St. on Sept 26. One man said his 81-year-old neighbor was trespassing on his lawn while mowing. Officers asked the older neighbor not to cross property survey marks at the lot line.

Credit card payment scam: A McAllister Lane resident reported that Capitol One had informed him he had been scammed. The Brookfield man said he received a call last March from someone purporting to be a Capitol One employee who said his $28,000 Capitol One credit card balance could be cleared if he paid $5,800 of it. He said he gave the caller finanicial information and they withdrew $1,000 from his account. In September a Capitol One attorney contacted him to collect his overdue balance and he learned the call and withdrawl from last March had been a scam.

Gun theft: A S&W .357 revolver was reported missing from a man's gun locker in the 900 block of Lake Road about 1 p.m. Sept. 28.

ATV warning: Police warned a 25-year-old man to ride his ATV only on his property and not on a former dump after someone complained an ATV was continually driving on Revere Drive.
