Police Report: Pricey Thefts, Prostitution, Illegal Solicitors

A man stuffed a Jack Victor select suit from Men's Warehouse in the front of his pants and fled in a white Cadillac, police reports say.

The Brookfield store said they had had problems in the past with the 53-year-old man, who often came in the store but didn't buy anything and once asked to return a shirt that they suspected he had stolen from the store, according to the report.

The man was arrested and referred to state prosecutors for retail theft. Officers recovered the suit, blue with a dark blue pin stripe. A store employee said the man tried on a suit about 8:30 p.m. Jan. 9, then ducked behind a rack and was gone.

Apple laptop stolen: A laptop sitting on the front passenger seat of an unlocked vehicle was stolen Tuesday, its owner reported. A Brookfield woman told police her car was parked at at 4:45 p.m. until 5:15 p.m. when she drove to and parked there until 6 p.m. She didn't know in which lot the theft of the 17-inch, 3-year-old laptop occurred.

Prostitution citation: A 19-year-old woman received a municipal citation for prostitution after police interviewed her at 3 a.m. Tuesday at , 1005 S. Moorland Rd.

Patient drives against orders: A man drove away from Elmbrook Memorial Hospital about 5 p.m. Jan. 9, despite being told when he was discharged that he shouldn't drive due to medications he had taken. The man made a U-turn on North Avenue and pulled into a driveway across the street from the hospital, where he got out and was arrested for second-offense OWI.

Illegal bon fire: A 17-year-old man was warned after police received a complaint before 4 p.m. Jan. 9 that teenagers had started a bon fire near pine trees near Chinook Lane on a day where city ordinances do not allowing such burning. The fire was extinguished.

Cart full of groceries stolen: A woman was cited for municipal retail theft after being caught pushing a grocery cart with $170 worth of groceries and merchandise out of , 15170 W. Greenfield Ave. about 1 p.m. Jan. 9.

Illegal solicitors: Two men soliciting for business on behalf of TLC Tree Care in Cary, IL on Jan. 9 were warned to stop going door to door without getting a required solicitation permit from the city, after residents near Forest Lane called police.

Kathy Van Zeeland purse stolen: A luxury leopard pattern Kathy Van Zeeland purse with red makeup bag and black gloves were stolen from a car parked outside , 15455 W. Bluemound Rd. The owner, a Pewaukee woman, said someone smashed the driver's side window of her Honda Odyssey minivan between 8:55 and 9:45 a.m. Jan. 9.

Golf course theft: About $1,700 worth of batteries and mower heads were stolen from , 16075 Pinehurst Dr. between 3 p.m. Jan. 8 and 8 a.m. Jan. 9. It was the second such theft from the golf course, which also was hit Dec. 30.

Gas grill, scrap metal: A propane tank and gas grill worth $150 to $200 was reported Jan. 9 as stolen from the rear of Cook Auto Supply, 3590 N. 126th St. An employee said scrap metal also was stolen from the business last summer, which was previously unreported. He said he mentioned it because there have been other recent scrap metal thefts in the area.
