Police Report: Sir, Have You No Sense of Decency?

The latest police calls include the theft of a Children's Miracle Network donation jar.

First the tip jar at . Now the donation container for Children's Miracle Network. Even among thieves, it doesn't get much lower than stealing from charity.

Brookfield police were called at 11:15 a.m. Saturday to help search for a man who had just stolen a Children's Miracle Network donation container from the counter at Speedway gas station, 14001 W. Greenfield Ave. in New Berlin on the two cities' border, reports say.

The suspect was described as a white man with a buzz-type haircut and tall, thin build. He had a black backpack, blue T-shirt and black shorts and might have fled on foot.

Officers searched the area, including other businesses, but found no one.

Brookfield police, however, did locate and issue a citation against a woman they say last month.

In other recent calls to Brookfield police:

Suspicious behavior on train tracks: Police received two calls about noon Sunday about a woman and a young child, possibly 1 year old, on the railroad tracks about 50 yards east of Calhoun Road. Callers said the child was sitting on a kitchen chair placed on the tracks and the woman was taking photos of the child.

CP Rail told police another train would be coming though in about 45 minutes, and when officers got to the scene, they found neither the woman, child or chair. 

Hiding car keys in drunken driving dispute: A woman called police Sunday to say her brother had hidden her car keys in her home to prevent her from driving while intoxicated. But she said she did not have a drinking problem and had a valid driver's license.

When police checked her record, they found her license was revoked and she had a prior drunken driving conviction. Officers told her they could not prosecute the keys as a theft because they were hidden, not stolen.

Fire in Weston Hills Park: Officers on patrol about 3:30 a.m. Sunday found the smoldering remains of a small fire in the parking lot of , 19135 Davidson Road. No one was in the park and officers doused the smoking debris with water. 

Trapped in elevator: Fire fighters pried open a stalled elevator and rescued trapped passengers at the , 375 S. Moorland Road about 6 p.m. Saturday. 

Skate park injury: A 9-year-old boy broke his wrists while skating at the facility about 2 p.m. Saturday. An off-duty paramedic who was at the park assisted the boy's parents.

Landlord mixup: A Brookfield woman who owns a rental property in West Allis told police Saturday that she received two threatening voice mail messages saying someone was dealing drugs out of her rental property and if she didn't kick "Jones" out, "they will burn the house down."

The woman said she doesn't have a tenant named Jones and believes the callers were talking about an adjacent rental that shares a driveway with her property, where she has seen lots of suspicious traffic. West Allis police said they would monitor the area.

Found property: An old set of car keys was found in the Wirth Park South parking lot and turned into the police department, 2100 N. Calhoun Road. 

Juvenile troubles: Police were searching after midnight Friday for separate reports of youth lighting fireworks in the area of Lakeview and Woelfel and ding-dong-ditching doorbells in the area of Huntington Circle.

Bats in the belfry: The was called to help remove a bat flying inside a home in the 20200 block of Liberty Court about 10 p.m. Friday.

Summerfest taxi dispute: Police were called to the parking lot to break up a verbal argument between a taxicab driver and two intoxicated riders coming back from Summerfest about 9 p.m. Friday. The issue was resolved when parents of one of the riders arrived and paid the disputed cab fare.

Theft from truck: Someone stole $350 from inside a Steidl's Vending truck parked outside 330 S. Executive Dr., during the noon hour Friday. 

Steve Madden purses theft: Two women stole nine Steve Madden purses each valued at $98 from , 15875 W. Blue Mound Road, about 7 p.m. Friday. One woman, 25, of Milwaukee, was identified through the license plate of a fleeing car and store video surveillance and charged with retail theft. The other woman's identity is yet unknown.
