Police Reports: Back to School Thievery, Grass Kill Threat and 'Power Nap'

The latest police reports also include a gas station clerk following a customer who drove away after saying he "was wasted."

As back-to-school lessons go, this was not a good one.

A couple was booked, cited for municipal retail theft and released after being caught stealing $50 worth of school supplies and miscellaneous items from the , 12735 W. Capitol Drive.

A 27-year-old woman stuffed the supplies in her purse before she and a 29-year-old man walked out without paying for them.

They were cooperative with police during the arrest about 8 p.m. Thursday.

Business burglarized: A burglary alarm sounded at 4:15 a.m. Monday at , 2415 N. 124th Street. Police found the back door kicked in, the front door glass broken and a lockbox with about $1,900 stolen. 

"You have won $3 million!" A Talbots Lane woman called police to report she got a phone call saying she had won a $3 million prize but needed to send money to claim it. She didn't send money and instead called police about 4 p.m. Friday.

Just resting: Police got a call about a man slumped over in the driver's seat of a Toyota Corolla near an electrical substation at Brookfield and Gebhardt roads. It turns out it was an We Energies employee taking an "authorized power nap" about 11:30 a.m. Friday.

Gas station clerk follows four-time drunken driver: After a gas station customer said he "was wasted," a station employee called police and followed the customer who drove to , 12760 W. Burleigh Road, about 11 a.m. Saturday. Police arrested the 52-year-old man for fourth-offense drunken driving.

Neighbor feud leads to grass kill threat: A man called police about 8 p.m. Friday to intervene in an ongoing verbal argument between two of his neighbors near Avondale and Weston Hills. One of the two feuding neighbors told police there was talk at a neighborhood party of threatening to spray Roundup to kill the other neighbor's grass. Officers warned them to make sure that did not happen.

Mountain bike found: Police have on inventory at the station, 2100 N. Calhoun Road, a mountain bike a man found in front of his house in the 3500 block of Nassau Drive.

Slow down, Jimmy Johns: A Jimmy John's restaurant delivery car backed out of a driveway and struck a Prism. The collision, however, was minor and not reportable.

Failed pit stop: All four tires were stolen off a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse parked in a driveway in the 17200 block of Royalcrest Drive overnight Friday into Saturday morning. Police collected the lug nuts for possible fingerprints.

Defective car window shattered: A man reported the rear window of his Chevy Trailblazer had shattered while parking in the lot of 401 N. Executive Drive between 7 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. Friday. The car was still locked, nothing was missing and there was no other damage to it or other cars in the lot. Police said the window might have been defective.

Dish Network fraud? Police were investigating a man's complaint that someone opened a Dish Network account with his Social Security number. The North Hills Drive resident said he closed a Dish Network account in 2007. When he called Saturday to regain service, he was told there was another account opened with his identification with a $400 balance.

Jewelry theft: Two gold necklaces and a diamond ring were reported stolen from a home in the 4600 block of Hastings Drive. The homeowner was uncertain when the thefts occurred but sometime after Christmas 2010 and before Aug. 25. 

Security threat: A kiosk employee called police about 1 p.m. Saturday after a man whom she didn't know told her "something bad could happen" to her because she had filed a complaint about a mall security employee. Brookfield police told the security man to tell his friends to stop harassing the kiosk worker.

No texting and driving: A patrol officer checked on a suspicious car parked in a lot at 17100 W. North Ave. The 17-year-old driver said he pulled over into the lot because he was texting and didn't want to drive at the same time.

Loud church festival: Police got at least four calls from residents near Lilly and Lisbon roads about loud music after 10 p.m. Saturday. It turned out to be a church festival in Butler, with the music tent set to close down at 11 p.m.

Loud wedding party: After getting a complaint about loud music and screaming neighbors about 10 p.m. Thursday, police talked to a homeowner in the 1500 block of Rolling Meadow Drive who said he was having a party for his daughter's wedding. He agreed to turn off the music.

Road rage: A woman, 57, called police at 12:07 a.m. Sunday after she said the driver of a Jeep tailgated her and pulled alongside her car so closely that the Jeep pushed in her passenger side mirror. Frightened, she slowed as the Jeep drove off and police were unable to find it. 

Dog-sitting not fun for neighborhood: Police investigating complaints about a dog barking for hours in the 17800 block of Continental Drive learned a couple were dog-sitting for the weekend for their adult son. The couple was at church when officers talked to neighbors about the poodle breed barking in a yard kennel.

Dog bite: A woman said she was bitten in the leg by a dog as she walked in the 3000 block of San Juan Trail about noon on Sunday. She did not need medical attention but the bite needed to be reported to the .

Dog warning: A 29-year-old dog owner responding to complaints that his dog was barking outside for two hours said he had given his dog a bath and was letting it dry out. Police were called about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday to the 4500 block of Nicholas Court. 

BB gun shot: Someone shot a BB through a kitchen window of a home in the 16200 block of Siesta Lane overnight Saturday into Sunday morning.

GPS units stolen: A Tom Tom GPS unit was taken Friday from an unlocked 1995 Chevy Malibu parked in the 12700 block of Blythe Road. A $169 GPS unit was stolen from an unlocked car between midnight Thursday and 7 a.m. Friday in a driveway in the 3000 block of Burlawn Parkway.

Leaving 10-month-old son unattended: A woman returned to her car about five minutes after a woman called police to express concern that an infant was alone in a car with a window rolled down. The driver said her car wouldn't start and her cell phone didn't work so she panicked and went into , 16750 W. Blue Mound Road to use its phone to call a friend about 5 p.m. Friday. She was warned about leaving her child unattended. A friend came to pick up her and her son.

"Big winnings" from the "UK Mega Lottery": A woman said she received a check in the mail for $3,980 with a letter saying she had won $150,000 for the UK Mega Lottery. The note said she should use the check to pay the government taxes on her "big winnings." The woman did not try to cash the check, but called her bank, the post office and police with concerns about identity theft.
