Police, Secret Service Investigating Counterfeit Cash

Two fake $100 bills with the same serial number were found at Pick 'N Save on Capitol Drive.

and the U.S. Secret Service are investigating two separate incidents in which counterfeit $100 bills were used at the at 12735 W. Capitol Dr.

In the most recent incident, on Sept. 19, an employee spotted a counterfeit $100 bill and alerted her supervisor before the customer who gave it to her, a Milwaukee man in his 30s, left the store, police reports say.

While the man was not arrested, police say they have a suspect and are working with the Secret Service to investigate the case.

Two days earlier, a phony $100 bill was given to a cashier but it wasn't discovered until hours later.

In both instances, bleached $5 bills were remade into $100 bills. Both bills had the same serial number.

"We do have a suspect, but he’s not in custody," Brookfield Police Capt. Jim Adlam said. "We are working on it and gathering intelligence."
