Silly String and Forks: Juvenile Pranks Keep Police Busy

The so-called "junior-senior wars" might have been involved in at least some of the property mischief reported to police.

Reason #132 why it's time for school to start: to ease the and other pranks.

Police reports from Aug. 24 to 29 included a number of complaints about property mischief and other antics, such as:

  • Silly string sprayed on a 2007 Toyota Camry parked in a driveway in the 18300 block of Elm Terrace Drive. Found Sunday morning, happened sometime overnight Saturday. The homeowner said it might have been a prank as he has high school-aged children.
  • A mailbox bonded shut, plastic forks and eggs clogging a pool filter line, and toilet paper and eggs on a house in the 15700 block of Luella Drive. This mess also occurred overnight Saturday into Sunday.
  • Sitting on lawn chairs in the middle of the roundabout at North Avenue and Barker Road. A neighbor called police to say three boys of high school age had sat in the roundabout for about an hour before trespassing through area yards about 2 p.m. Thursday.
  • Pouring a possible bleach substance on a car, smearing lipstick and shaving cream on a sidewalk and toilet-papering a home in the 17800 block of Captains Court in the 9 p.m. hour Wednesday.
  • Signs defaced near Burlawn Parkway and Center Street. A subdivision sign about removing animal waste had "I (heart) Dick" written in red lipstick. A profane word was spray painted on a stop sign. And silver spray paint was used to cover a do not enter sign  and draw an arrow on a yellow arrow sign.

Other than the signs, there was no permanent damage reported in any of the complaints.
