'Starry Nights' Concert Marred by 6 Car Break-Ins

Woman notices car with window broken out, and Brookfield officers find five more cars entered during concert.

At 7:59 p.m. July 19, police were called to the Starry Nights concert at Mitchell Park by a woman who noticed a window broken out of a car, and officers found five more cars had been entered, four with smashed windows and one that had been left unlocked.

Purses, iPads, laptops, credit cards and checkbooks were stolen. Police believe the thefts all happened within 30 minutes, but no one saw or heard anything suspicious, and police have no suspects.

At 11:18 a.m. July 18, a Brookfield woman reported a window had been smashed in her car and her purse stolen some time since 8 a.m. when she’d parked at Congregational Home, 13900 W. Burleigh Rd.

Police checked the rest of the Congregational lot, Highlander Elite Fitness & Racquet Club and Brookfield East High School and found two more cars with windows shattered and purses missing.       
 
At 1:21 p.m. July 20, a woman called police from the Pick ‘n Save lot at 12735 W. Capitol Dr. to say she’d just seen a man smash a window in a car and steal a purse.

She remained on the line, saying the perpetrator and a companion were in front of Xperience Fitness. Before officers arrived, the suspects left in a maroon 1990s Toyota Tercel with no rear plate, she said.
