Suspect told police he was drinking and taking pills when he got "bold" and decided to steal items from a Brookfield neighborhood.

A Milwaukee man is facing charges after he allegedly stole pool equipment from a Brookfield home, led police on a high-speed chase to Menomonee Falls and tried to hide by diving in a pond.

Jordan F. Kindt, 22, was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court Tuesday with burglary, attempting to flee an officer, possession of an illegally obtained prescription, third offense operating while intoxicated and operating a motor vehicle after revocation of his license.

Brookfield police were called to a subdivision in the 19700 block of Brandon Trail at 11:32 p.m. July 31. A resident reported a suspicious vehicle had followed his daughter and turned off its lights when it entered the neighborhood. The driver got out of his vehicle and headed towards a soccer park where money had been stolen a few weeks prior.

When an officer arrived, he saw Kindt in his car. Kindt looked at the squad car and quickly drove off.

The officer chased Kindt, who drove through a yard in the 18200 block of Arden Avenue, drove over several flower beds, through a ditch and back onto the road. Police chased him to a dead end on Green Crane Drive in Menomonee Falls, where Kindt jumped out of his car and fled on foot.

Officers ran after Kindt and eventually found him in a pond where he was trying to conceal himself under water.

Kindt told officers he had been drinking and taking pills in Milwaukee when he got “bold” and decided to try to steal scrap metal from homes under construction in Brookfield. He came across a home in the Brandon Trail neighborhood where he stole a pool vacuum and pressure washer. Kindt told officers he then got nervous and began to leave, but once he saw the squad car he knew police were there for him.

Kindt, who had a blood alcohol level of 0.06 at the time of the arrest, told officers he had drank alcohol, smoked marijuana, and took Ambien and Suboxin before the theft.

Kindt was ordered held in Waukesha County Jail on $3,500 cash bond.
