Three Accused of Passing Forged Checks in Brookfield

Three Milwaukee residents tried cashing forged checks at M&I Bank in Brookfield, police say.

Three Milwaukee residents are accused of passing three forged checks at a Brookfield bank.

Nadia L. Clay, 28, Andrew T. Jordan, 22, and Gerald D. McLemore, 25, were charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court Wednesday with one count of uttering a forgery. If convicted, they each face up to three years in prison and $10,000 in fines.

At 9:31 a.m. Aug. 7, Clay went into M&I Bank, 3155 N. 124th St., and cashed a $652 check written from an account held by V&J Employment Services Inc.

At 2:57 p.m., Jordan entered the bank and cashed a $670 check drawn from the same account. McLemore came in one minute later and tried to cash a $663 check drawn from the same account, but the teller became suspicious and called V&J as McLemore left the bank.

At 3:55 p.m., Jordan went to another M&I branch located at 70th and Greenfield in West Allis and tried to cash another $678 check, but the teller became suspicious and Jordan left before the transaction could be completed.

All of the checks cashed by the trio were later found to be forged.

Brookfield police officers were able to identify Clay from surveillance footage of her transaction and contacted her Sept. 27. She said she got the check from someone for doing janitorial work and she gave $250 from the check back to the person who gave it to him.

All three defendants will make their first court appearance Nov. 12.
