Tosa Woman, Milwaukee Man Are Latest OWI Suspects in Brookfield
Citizen calls in one suspected drunken driver and a patrol officer spots another, both driving erratically and dangerously on busy thoroughfares.
A 54-year-old Wauwatosa woman was arrested at 9:55 p.m. Feb. 2 on suspicion of drunken driving, first offense, after a Brookfield police patrol officer saw her driving erratically and dangerously and pulled her over.
The officer was driving southbound on North 124th Street near West Burleigh Street when he noticed the woman weaving. He got behind her and saw her almost strike a curb and then veer back over the center line.
When he had noted that she kept varying her speed for no apparent reason and then crossed the center line again, he stopped her.

The officer said he immediately noticed a strong odor alcohol when he spoke to the driver. But when he asked if she'd been drinking, she said she was coming home from a dinner date and had drunk just one glass of wine.
Despite that claim, she couldn’t get her driver's license out of her wallet.

The officer asked her to perform field sobriety tests, which she failed, and she blew a .16 blood alcohol concentration on a breath test – twice the proscribed limit.
Driver lost trying to find his way home
At 6:42 p.m. Feb. 4, a 39-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, first offense, after a caller reported him driving erratically on West Capitol Drive at Calhoun Road, traveling east.
An officer located him and got behind to observe. He said the driver appeared to be having difficulty maintaining his lane, weaving back and forth between the lines.
At Pilgrim Road, he pulled into the median break as if to turn left and sat there for some time even though he had ample opportunities to make his turn. Instead, though, he started back onto Capitol and ran over the curb and spun 180 degrees.
At that point, the officer decided it was time to stop him, but when he hit his lights, the man pulled a U-turn to continue east on Capitol. He did stop shortly after, though.
The officer said the driver was disoriented and at first could give no coherent response. After further questioning by the officer, he finally said, "I am going to my apartment, and I am lost."
He failed standard field sobriety tests and blew a .14 BAC.
