Two Fires Aided by Sprinklers, Security Systems

Brookfield fire fighters responded to alarms at Central Bark and Best Western Midway.

A full evacuation of the was avoided Friday after a sprinkler system helped put out a kitchen fire.

Brookfield firefighters also were able to limit the loss for a fire at on Saturday to a ceiling fan, Fire Chief Charlie Myers said.

"Both of these incident are examples of the value of sprinklers system, fire detection systems and the secure lock boxes," Myers wrote in an email. "Damage was reduced and the businesses operations continued."

According to police and fire reports:

At 2:21 a.m. Friday, responded to an automatic fire alarm at the Best Western Midway, 1005 S. Moorland Rd. A sprinkler system and firefighters put out a kitchen fire caused when cleaning rags ignited.

"There was no fire damage to the building and the guests and staff were allowed to return reoccupy the building," Myers said.Β 

At 1:32 a.m. Saturday, firefighters got an alarm from the Central Bark Doggy Day Care, 3675 N. 124th St. Using a secure lock box to enter the building, crews quickly put out the fire limited to a ceiling-mounted fan unit.
