Wauwatosa Man Busted for 5th OWI in Brookfield

Police allege the man was driving too slow and almost hit a squad car before getting pulled over.

A Wauwatosa man is facing his fifth drunken driving charge after he was pulled over in Brookfield Wednesday for driving too slow.

Dennis J. Haase, 63, was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court Thursday with one count of fifth offense operating while intoxicated and one count of operating a vehicle after revocation of his license.

At 10 p.m. Wednesday, a Brookfield police officer spotted Haase driving on Elm Grove Road at 31 miles per hour in a 40-mph speed zone. The officer began to follow the car and Haase almost hit him while trying to change lanes.

After being pulled over and asked how much he had to drink, Haase told the officer “not much” but was unable to pass field sobriety tests. Haase had a blood-alcohol level of 0.149.

He was convicted of OWI in 1991, 2000, 2005 and 2009.
