Woman's Condition Draws Plenty of Attention, Plus OWI Ticket

Older driver doesn't know what day it is and only dimly recalls having had an accident – somewhere in Southeast Wisconsin....

At 3:28 p.m. July 9, a 69-year-old Milwaukee woman was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, first offense, a few blocks into Wauwatosa after several people called from the Piggly Wiggly grocery at 2315 N. 124th Street to report that she was leaving the store unfit to drive.

Drive she did, though, and more citizens flagged down officers as they approached the woman weaving down West North Avenue, a couple of blocks into Wauwatosa.

The woman had trouble going through her purse, and when asked for driver’s license gave her insurance card instead. Then she dropped her wallet and keys, appeared very puzzled, and admitted she’d had a couple of beers.

There was fresh damage to her car, and she said she’d had an accident in Sheboygan... or possibly Muskego. She wasn’t sure.

She didn’t know what day or what time it was – “Afternoon,” she said – and she failed sobriety tests. She was taken for a blood draw.
