Wrong-Way Driver Arrested as 2nd-Time OWI Suspect

Man was first reported to police driving in the oncoming lanes of Blue Mound Road.

At 2:29 a.m. July 6, a 56-year-old Warrens, Wis., man was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, his second offense, after a caller reported him driving west in the eastbound lanes of Blue Mound Road.

A nearby patrol officer responded and spotted him, back on the right side of the road but weaving from lane to lane, in the 17300 block of Blue Mound.

When the officer pulled him over and walked up to the car, the suspect was lighting a cigarette – “typical behavior and a pretty sure sign” of someone trying to conceal the odor of alcohol, a police spokesman said.

The suspect had glassy, bloodshot eyes and slurred speech, failed field sobriety tests and blew a .16 blood alcohol concentration on a breath test.
