Young Woman's Driving Likely Influenced by Heroin, Not Alcohol

After driving recklessly, Brookfield woman shows signs of drug impairment, and her father confirms she's an addict.

At 8:06 p.m. July 13, a 21-year-old Brookfield woman was arrested on suspicion of operating while impaired, first offense, after a caller reported her driving recklessly while getting off Interstate 94 at Moorland Road.

An officer spotter her after she pulled into a gas station at Blue Mound and Moorland, then followed as she went south and pulled into a residential driveway.

Officers looked into car – the windows were down – and saw a purse and keys on the seat, and a small black mini-safe on the floor.

They knocked at the door of the house to no avail, but said lights were going on and off and blinds were being pulled. They then reached the homeowner, who said his daughter would have been driving the car, and he said he was coming home and would, in the meantime, call his daughter.

She eventually came out, and officers noted her pupils were highly constricted – the opposite of the effects of alcohol, but strongly associated with certain drugs including opiates.

She was also having trouble with her balance and was slurring her words. Her father told officers she was addicted to heroin.

She attempted sobriety tests, failed, and was taken for a blood draw.
