August Primary Election Needed for Cullen's Redrawn Assembly Seat

Three people have filed paperwork to run as Republicans for the state's 13th Assembly seat, whose redrawn boundaries don't include incumbent Rep. David Cullen (D-Milwaukee).

After a one-month reprieve from elections (in July), Brookfield voters will be wooed back to the polling booth Aug. 14 for primary runoffs in elections such as the state's redrawn 13th Assembly district.

13th Assembly District

State Rep. David Cullen, whose Milwaukee home was not included in the redrawn boundaries, was elected in April to the Milwaukee County Board. Running for Cullen's seat, which covers parts of Wauwatosa, Brookfield, West Allis, and Elm Grove, are:

  • Nate Ristow (Republican) — 7918 Harwood Ave., Apt. 1, Wauwatosa
  • John Pokrandt (Democrat) — 6717 Milwaukee Ave., Wauwatosa

Ristow, who served as legal assistant to Gov. Scott Walker for a year, emphasized limited government, constitutionalism and job growth as his main focuses.

John Pokrandt, who lost a bid for Wauwatosa mayor, said jobs and the economy, education funding, women’s rights and workers’ rights.

14th Assembly District

No August primary will be needed for this district, in which incumbent Republican Dale Kooyenga, of Brookfield, will face a challenge from Democrat Chris Rockwood, of Wauwatosa, a verification technologist at Mentor Graphics Corp.

The two will vie in the Nov. 6 general election.
