Capitol Drive Construction Slated to Begin

State transportation officials plan to make improvements on Capitol Drive, with one lane of Capitol Drive closed during day and two lanes closed overnight.

Put down that coffee cup, Capitol Drive motorists.

It's time to pay more attention to the road because orange cones will be going up soon.

Five miles of Capitol Drive from Mayfair Road west to Brookfield Road will undergo construction this year, with work slated to begin as early as next week, City of Brookfield Public Works Director Tom Grisa told Patch Friday. However, with Friday's snow, that could be pushed back.

The first segment will be all in Wauwatosa, from Mayfair Road west to the border with Brookfield at North 124th Street. Two of the three existing lanes will remain open for traffic from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. during the construction project. But overnight, from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., there will be only one open lane in each direction.

The other two segments will be in Brookfield, from 124th Street to Brook Lane, and from Brook Lane to Brookfield Road at the Sendik's Towne Centre.
