City Surveying All Residents for Strategic Planning

Residents will receive surveys Monday to take online or by mail.

To help City of Brookfield officials with budgeting and long-range strategic planning, residents will have the opportunity to fill out a 15-minute survey about their satisfaction with government services and priorities for spending.

All residents should receive the letters in the mail Saturday or Monday, including a unique code they can use to fill out the survey on the city website or request a hard copy. Residents are asked to complete the surveys by April 30.

Cobalt Community Research, the non-profit organization assisting with the survey, will share the results with the Common Council in June so they can use the results for planning the 2013 budget.

Questions on the survey will be similar to those asked in 2006 and 2009, asking residents to rate various services provided by the city, as well as potential goals such as improving traffic flow and improving housing options for senior citizens. They will also collect demographic information.

"We do these periodically for two purposes," Daniel Ertl, director of community development for the city, said. "One is to assess the satisfaction of our residents with regards to services, quality of life, and resources that we provide. Second of all, associated with strategic planning, we ask them questions related to priorities for budgetary purposes."

The survey will cost the city about $17,000 for the mailing and work by Cobalt, as was allocated in the 2012 budget.
