Commission Backs Funeral Home, Crematorium and Bougey's Outdoor Patio

Krause Funeral Home's request to build a new location on Capitol Drive near the airport will go to the Common Council for a vote Jan. 17.

The construction industry may get another shot in the arm, with the Brookfield Plan Commission backing Krause Funeral Home's request to build a 12,500-square-foot fourth location in Brookfield.

Commissioners Monday night gave unanimous support to the plan for construction of funeral spaces, a chapel, crematory and banquet hall for post-funeral luncheons and refreshments.

Krause, which has two Milwaukee locations and one in New Berlin, would build on four acres at 21600 W. Capitol Dr. near Brookfield's western border with Pewaukee and the . It's across from the Gateway West Commerce Center.

Steve Girard spoke at a public hearing, raising concerns about whether the proposed building height would interfere and pose safety problems with nearby aircraft.

Krause's proposal also calls for an outdoor patio to offer people a chance to sit outside or smoke.

Commissioners Monday also unanimously favored addition of an outdoor patio at , 16760 W. Greenfield Ave. Aldermen last year changed their rules to , as businesses and patrons sought it.

The Krause and Bougey's projects will go the Common Council for consideration Jan. 17.
